And now???
Dear cartoonist,
More than half a year ago, in September 2024, we launched the HUMORratatata project, which aimed to bring “Reflections of Current Affairs and Expressions of Hope” through an international cartoon exhibition.
In a world plagued by conflict and uncertainty,
this initiative – “Cartoons as Mirrors of Current Affairs” – offered a unique platform for creative expression and social reflection. Through humour and satire, we wanted to invite cartoonists worldwide to share their vision on global themes, with an emphasis on solidarity, hope, and questioning established values.
Especially in light of the ongoing crises in the Middle East, Ukraine and elsewhere, we called on you – cartoonists – to shed light on the madness of war and conflict, while at the same time showing stories of solidarity and humanity. The goal: to build a bridge between cultures and people, beyond borders and differences.
With over 800 submissions from almost 300 cartoonists worldwide, we would like to thank you in advance for the enormous response and inspiring contributions!
The submission period closed on January 31, 2025. Since then, we have been working intensively to find partners to support and make the exhibition possible. There were hopeful signals, and some iconic locations were open to collaboration. Unfortunately, many committed organizations, peace movements and other partners dropped out at the end of January
- often due to the increasingly deteriorating international context, not least after the inauguration of the American president.
We are therefore forced to postpone the planned May/June 2025 edition. Some organizations remain enthusiastic about supporting and organizing this project, but they too have insufficient resources. We continue to believe in this project, and continue to look for alternatives, cheaper solutions, and new collaborations. However, reality does not allow us to realize this in qualitative and safe conditions for the time being.
Important: your submitted cartoons will not be distributed or passed on, and we will of course keep you informed of future developments.
We share with you the great sense of disappointment, but continue to hope that we can still realize this project – in a dignified manner.
