Dear participants for the 2008 Mathematics Cartoon Competition,
first, let me thank all of you for the many wonderful submissions
to the German Mathematical Society's (DMV) 2008
Mathematics Cartoon Competition.
First, I want to inform you of the results - in case you have
not seen them. There were altogether more than 250 submissions
from 150 participants to the competition. Thus the work
for the Jury was hard and difficult, but it did end with a
unanimous vote.
In the end, the Jury awarded four prizes:
First Prize: kittihawk, Berlin
Second Prize: Oliver Weiss, Grassau (Germany)
Third Prize: Jason Love, USA
Special Prize (for a submission showing the poetry of mathematics):
Mihai Sorin Ignat (Romania).
The prize winning cartoons are shown on the website

I hope you also like them!
There is also a poster depicting one cartoon by kittihawk and one by Oliver Weiss;
and a public exhibition of the Prize Winner's contributions, as well as
of 15 further works, is planned for May 4-29
at the "Lichthof" of the Berlin Technical University.
Some of you did submit original drawings (rather than
color xeroxes or electronic files). If you want to get your
artwork back, please send me a message with the precise
mailing address that we should use - I would not have any
originals lost in the mail!

and for your enthusiasm (and for lots of fun
with the project).
